Tarleton baseball takes series over Incarnate Word

Tarleton State University baseball team played University of the Incarnate Word and came out of the series 3-1 giving their record a total of 23 wins and 11 losses.

In the first game of a four game stand, Tarleton beat Incarnate Word 11-1.

To start the game, TSU’s Ryan Small hit a single to score Noah Ringenber.

In the second inning, Tarleton added on when Fola Lajide scored on an error to make it 2-0 TSU.

In the third, UIW scored their only run of the game.

In the fourth, Evan Robinson hit a single to score Lajide and Rustin Thomas. The runs didn’t stop there as Alvaro Moreno hit a home run of the grand slam variety to make it an 8-1 game.

In the fifth, Lajide scored Thomas on a single, and Nico Moran singled to score Jared Musgrove and Lajide. Finishing out the offensive onslaught, Ringenber hit a sacrifice fly to score Musgrove.

This would end the scoring of the game 11-1 in Tarleton’s favor.

In the second game of the series, Tarleton would fall just as they won the first game. By the hand of a powerful offensive- 15-3.

In the first and the third inning, UIW scored a run, in the fourth, they scored two, in the sixth, they scored six and the last inning they scored five.

Tarleton’s Moreno scored Moran in the fifth off a ground ball and in the seventh, due to a passed ball, Luke Slentz scored from third. The last score Tarleton saw was when Jake Klauck grounded out but plated Christopher Patton.

In the third game of the series, Tarleton won 7-1.

UIW got on board first by scoring a run off of a passed ball.

In the second, Tarleton evened the score when Colten Boothe hit a homerun.

In the fourth inning., TSU scored two runs when Robinson scored Lajide and Thomas off of a basehit.

In the fifth, Small hit a double and scored Boothe and Moreno. Small went on to score the final point of the game off an error.

In the last game of the stand, Tarleton’s offensive showed up again and won the game 11-3.

Moran scored in the first due to a passed ball, in the second Thomas scored due to an error and Lajide scored when Robinson hit a sacrifice out.

In the third, UIW answered back by hitting a two run homerun.

But Tarleton earned a pair of homeruns in the third to take back the two they gave away.

UIW scored a run in the fifth off of a basehit to make it 5-3 in Tarleton’s favor.

In the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with help from basehits, doubles, a sacrifice out and an error, Tarleton scored five more runs.

Then, in the eight inning Small hit a homerun to score the last point of the series to make the final score 11-3 Tarleton.
