TexAnn track competes at Lion Invitational

On Saturday, April 13, the TexAnns traveled to Commerce to compete in the Lion Invitational at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The TexAnns had four competitors nearly hit the NCAA provisional mark in their events.

Every TexAnn who competed in Saturday’s field events finished in the top 10 of their individual event. Maycen Eubank took the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 3.05m (10′ 0″), just 0.46m shy of the NCAA provisional mark. Taylor Eary also won her event. She competed in the long jump and had a best jump of 5.24m (17′ 3″). Eary also competed in the triple jump and finished third with a length of 10.85m (35′ 7″).

Shelby Greenwalt took second place in the long jump with a best jump of 16′ 3″.

Kallie Johanson competed in the shot put, and with a throw of 13.06m (42′ 10″), finished second. Johanson was .35m short of the NCAA provisional mark. She also finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 35.75m (117′ 3.5″).

Marissa Westbrook (12.55m; 41′ 3″) and Brianna Johnson (11.30m; 37′ 1″) finished third and fifth in the shot put.

Danyelle Dillard (34.90m; 114′ 6″), Westbrook (34.36m; 112′ 9″), Hannah Chambers (231.89m; 104′ 7.5″) and Johnson (30.58m; 100′ 0″) competed in the shot put and finished fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth place respectively.

Also in shot put, Dillard (33.75m; 110′ 9″) finished third, Johnson (33.49m; 109′ 11.5″) finished fourth and Westbrook (30.40m; 99′ 9″) finished fifth.

Amanda Smith competed in the javelin throw. She threw 18.00m (59′ 1″) and finished sixth.

In the hurdles, Delynn Garrett ran the 100m hurdles in 16.34, giving her a third place finish while Stephanie Kornegay ran the 400m hurdles in 1:09.93 for third place.

In the sprints, Greenwalt took ninth place in the 200m dash with a time of 26.30 and finished just 1.68 seconds short of the NCAA provisional mark. Smith (1:02.91) and Macy Gilcrease (1:05.63) finished in the top 10 of the 400m dash.

Tarleton had no relay teams compete this week, but all four TexAnns who competed in the distance races placed in the top 10 of their respective events.

Katelin Huckabee won the 5000m run with a time of 18:51.00. Celeste Meyer (18:57.00) finished second, Ashley Husbands (19:34.00) finished fifth and Lauren Finley (20:10.00) finished seventh.

In the 1500m run, Husbands finished second in 4:55.90, only 20.56 off the NCAA mark. Huckabee (4:57.40) took third, Meyer (5:01.80) took fifth and Finley (5:14.40) took sixth.

The next meet for the TexAnns will be on April 20 at Baylor University for the Michael Johnson Relays.
