TexAnns take first in McMurry meet

On March 22 and 23, the Tarleton TexAnns traveled to McMurry University in Abilene for their second track meet of the season. The TexAnns finished first with 179.5 points and seven first place finishes.

The field events took place on Friday, while the running and jumping events were Saturday.

The seven first place finishes were earned by Payton Shoush (1500m run), Nikki McNorton (100m hurdles and high jump), Ashley Husbands (800m run), Jenna Duncan (400m hurdles), Katelin Huckabee (5000m run) and the 4x800m relay team.

The TexAnns ran in four relays on Saturday and all four A-teams earned points towards the team total of 179.5.

In the field events on Friday, all five TexAnn jumpers recorded points.

In the long jump, Shelby Greenwalt claimed third with a jump of 5.25m (17′ 2.75″) while Austin DuPont-Jackson took fifth with a jump of 4.85m (15′ 11″). DuPont-Jackson also took third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.88m (35′ 8.5″).

McNorton finished first in the high jump with a height of 1.63m (5’4.25″), just .05m off the NCAA provisional mark. Terry finished a close second with a height of 1.53m (5′ 0.25″).

The 4x800m relay team (Shoush, Huckabee, Lauren Finley and Husbands) took first place with a time of 10:03.38. The 4x400m A-team (Wilson, Greenwalt, Shoush and Jasmine Owens) took second with a time of 4:03.45.

The 4x100m relay team (Deylinn Garrett, McNorton, Hannah White and Wilson) and the 4x200m relay team (Marissa Banda, Taylor Eary, Macy Gilcrease and White) both finished third with times of 48.59 and 1:46.93, respectively.

Shoush took first in the 1500m run in 5:11.61 while Husbands (5:21.69) took third, Huckabee (5:22.98) took fourth and Celeste Meyer (5:23.55) finished fifth.

All four TexAnns who competed in the 100m hurdles added points to the team’s two-day total. McNorton won the event in 14.59, just 0.19 away from the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Shelby Terry (14.83), Duncan (15.49) and Garrett (15.81) finished second, fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the 400m dash, Diamond Wilson finished fifth in 58.44, Owens took sixth with a time of 58.96 and Paige Klein finished seventh in (59.11). In the 400m hurdles, Duncan won the race with a time of 1:05.32, while Stephanie Kornegay (1:08.09) took third and Greenwalt (1:08.20) took fourth.

Husbands took the gold in the 800m run in 2:30.24 and Terry finished third in 2:39.31.

White (25.85), McNorton (25.91), Garrett (26.59) and Wilson (26.74) placed third, fourth, sixth and seventh in the 200m dash. Huckabee won the 5000m with a time of 18:59.12. Meyer (19:29.37) and Finley (20:59.61) took third and fifth in the 5000m run to earn team points.

The TexAnns will run in Austin at the Texas Relays on March 27-30.
