Texan track finishes second at McMurry

The Tarleton Texans traveled to Abilene on Friday and Saturday for the Warhawk Classic at McMurray University. The Texans finished second with a two-day total of 173 points and had seven first-place finishes in the two-day meet.

In Friday’s field events, Patrick McHale finished third in the high jump with a height of 1.88m (6′ 2″) and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.47m (21′ 2.75″).  Finishing second in the high jump was Travis Allison with a jump of 1.98m (6′ 6″).

The Texans competed in four relay races with gold in the 4x100m and 4x800m. The 4x100m relay team (Brendan Williams, Phillip Hayes, Conner Wilkes and Robert Adkinson) finished in 41.65, just .45 shy of the NCAA provisional mark.

The 4x800m relay team (Brian Cooper, Chase Rathke, Tye Doty and Dylan Willett) won the race in 8:15.63. The 4x200m relay team (Marquis Thompson, Nick Daniels, De’Vodney Thomas and Ryan Goss) and the 4x400m relay team (Cameron Krc, Clarencio Guerrero, Hayes amd Peyton Best) both finished second with times of 1:30.00 and 3:19.39, respectively.

Willet (4:06.89) and Doty (4:07.66) finished first and second in the 1500m run.

In the 110m hurdles, Randall Kadlacek (14.90) finished second and only .21 seconds off the NCAA provisional mark. Thomas (15.52), Anthony Parisi (16.17) and Kyle Johnson (16.99) took fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the 100m dash, Hayes took second with a time of 10.75, just .15 seconds off the NCAA provisional mark; Adkinson took fifth with a time of 10.96.

In the 400m dash, Krc won the race with a time of 48.53. Thompson (49.57), Best (50.61) and Guerrero (50.84) finished second, fourth and fifth place.

In the 800m run, Rathke (1:57.78), Gordon Alvarado (2:00.96) and Cooper (2:03.66) took first, second and fifth place.

In the 400m hurdles, Jeff Smith had his second victory of the season. Smith took first with a time of 53.15; Kadlacek (55.15), Parisi (57.19), Johnson (57.23) and Tyler Fisher (59.75) claimed third, fourth, fifth and seventh place, respectively.

Willett took second place in the 3000m steeplechase in 10:10.39.

Doty won the 5000m run with a time of 15:56.82; Thorne Pettigrew (16:08.47) and James Polasek (16:11.15) finished third and fourth. Mason Wrobel placed second in the 10,000m run in 35:37.94.

Tarleton will travel to Austin next to compete in the Texas Relays on March 27- 30.
