Tarleton basketball teams crush the Cardinals
February 18, 2013
In a Pink-Out battle on the hardwood this Saturday, the Tarleton State University Texans and TexAnns both defeated the Cardinals of Incarnate Word.
The TexAnns wrapped up their game with a score of 88-74, after fighting their way back from being down by one at halftime.
Cheyenne Berry landed a layup to jump start the comeback for the girls leading to an 11-1 run and Tarleton’s first double-digit lead.
After the Cardinals struggled to get within six, Brianna Bledsoe rallied to start yet another 10-3 run for the TexAnns which put them up by 13 with over 10 minutes left on the clock.
The TexAnns could not have pulled off this win without the help of Peyton Adamson, who scored 25 points during the game. She was later named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Other notable ladies of the night who all turned double digits during the game were Kiara Wright with 17 points, Bledsoe with 13, Berry with 10, and Morgan Ashmore with 11 points.
It was a slam dunk for the Texans as well, who also received a check in the win column with a final score of 77-71.
The meeting with the Cardinals was the definition of a back-and-forth game with 10 lead changes and three different ties only in the first half of the match.
The men started the second half off with a bang as they created a 13-2 run and took the lead to 50-32. Following a push from Incarnate Word, the lead was cut to 16 with back-to-back buckets and answered with their own 17-3 run over Tarleton.
After trading jump shots and free-throws, the Texans finally managed to solidify the win in the last minute of the game.
Both teams will hit the court again this Wednesday in Lawton, Oklahoma against the Cameron Aggies.
