Stephenville High faces Monterrey Tech

The Stephenville Yellow Jackets start their 2012 football season tonight at the Tarleton State University Memorial Field against an unlikely opponent. The Jackets take on Monterrey Tech, a school from Monterrey, Mexico.

This odd matchup came into existence when the Jackets dropped down to 3A. This put them in the same levels as many smaller schools and head football coach Joseph Gillespie had a hard time finding other teams to play his intimidating squad of athletes. Monterrey Tech stepped in and offered to play the Jackets in their first game of the season.

Monterrey Tech is the 10-time football champion in Mexico and has faced their fair share of Texas football teams.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are six dollars at the gate.
