Texans get buffaloed in four-game weekend

On March 23 Tarleton State University’s baseball team welcomed West Texas A&M University to Stephenville for a four game home stand. The Texans went 1-3 against the Buffs for the weekend.

In the first game in the second inning West Texas hit a groundball that scored a run to be the first team to record a point.

In the sixth inning, the score still remained 1-0 in favor of the Buffs, until they hit four base hits and a double which lead to a score change making it 5-0 in favor of the Buffs.

In the eighth inning West Texas tacked on two more runs to make it 7-0.

In Tarleton’s half of the eighth the bats showed some life. Andy Wolfe got on base by way of error which resulted in Garrett Hardey scoring a run for the Texans.

The next inning Blake Silguero hit a double into left field which would score Ryan Small to make it 7-2 but that is all the Texans could do for the game.

The next day, the Texans had a double header.

Ethan Stuckly started the first game off with a base hit which would end up being a scored run when Small hit a ground ball to score him making the score 1-0 in Tarleton’s favor.

Pete Perez pitched for the Texans and had a stellar start by retiring three West Texas batters in the first inning and the second inning.

In the Tarleton half of the third inning Stuckly started the inning with a single and Small came up and scored Stuckly. Stuckly hit a double into left field. Silguero hit a single to move the runners to first and third with Hardey coming up to bat. Hardey hit a single to center field and scored a run to make it 3-0 Tarleton.

Perez stayed in for Tarleton for the remainder of the game and pitched his third complete game of the season and his second shutout of the season.

The second game of the day went to West Texas by a score of 4-3.

West Texas started the game with two runners on the bases but Tarleton ended the danger with a double play.

In Tarleton’s half of the first Evan Robinson got on base when he bunted and the throw to tag him out was missed. This bunt allowed Stuckly to score making the score 1-0 Tarleton.

In the third inning, Silguero hit a double to right center and scored Small from first making it 2-0 Tarleton.

In the sixth inning, West Texas loaded the bases with three consecutive singles. With a sacrifice fly out the Buffs cut Tarleton’s lead in half and made the score 2-1. To add to the damage, the Buffs hit a groundout to score a run making it 2-2. West Texas increased their score and made it 3-2 with a Tarleton error.

In the Tarleton half of the sixth, Noah Ringenberger scored to make the game 3-3.

In the seventh inning, West Texas hit a single to right field and scored a run making it 4-3 in the Buffs favor. That would be the final score of the game as Tarleton fell to the Buffs.

In the final game of the series West Texas would beat Tarleton 15-4.

In the second inning West Texas loaded the bases and with help of a single and a sacrifice fly out they lead 2-0. Then with the bases loaded West Texas hit a double and cleaned the bases to make it 5-0 in their favor. West Texas then hit a double and scored two more runs to make it 7-0. By the end of the inning the score was 11-0 in favor of West Texas.

In the Tarleton part of the third Ringenberger hit a single to score a run to make it 11-1.

In the fourth, Tarleton scored again when Hardey reached base on a throwing error and then Wolfe scored Hardey when he hit a single to center field.

The Buffs answered back by scoring another run in the fifth to make it 12-2 in their favor.

Tarleton came up in the bottom of the fifth and Small hit his second home run of the season to make it 12-3.

In the sixth West Texas pounded on Tarleton even more by scoring three more runs to make it 15-3.

In the bottom of the sixth Ty Crump hit a ground ball to score a run for Tarleton to make it 15-4.

That is all Tarleton could muster as they lost to West Texas 15-4.
