Texans get bit by Rattlers

The Texans faced off against the No. 1 St. Mary’s University on Wednesday, March 29 but would fall 9-2.

In the third inning the Rattlers took advantage of a wild pitch resulting in a scored run to make the score 1-0. Tarleton committed an error which led to St. Mary’s scoring two runs to make it 3-0 against Tarleton.

In the Tarleton half of the third inning Chris Patton got on base with a single and Evan Robinson got on base by way of a walk. Even with the two runners on base Tarleton was not able to score a run in the inning.

In the fourth inning Ryan Small hit a homerun over the fence in left field to make the score 3-1.

In St Mary’s half of the fifth inning Tarleton committed another error that resulted in another two runs for the Rattlers making the score 5-1. Things got worse for the Texans when the Rattlers hit a double that scored two more runs making the score 7-1.

To add to the six run lead in the ninth inning, St. Mary’s scored two more runs to make it a 9-1 game.

Hoping for some points in the ninth Ethan Stuckly hit a sacrifice pop fly that would score a run for the Texans. That was all for the Texans as they fell 9-2 against the Rattlers.

In other Tarleton baseball news pitcher Pete Perez was awarded his third Pitcher of the Week award from the Lone Star Conference.

Perez threw a stellar game for Tarleton when West Texas A&M came to town. He gave up two hits and two walks in seven innings and struck out eight batters. The Buffs didn’t score a run on Perez resulting in a shutout. This also led to his third complete game of the season.

Perez was named LSC pitcher of the Week on Feb. 7 and March 6.
