Tarleton baseball wins two and loses one at Abilene Christian University Tournament

From March 2-4, Tarleton State University’s baseball team attended the Abilene Christian Tournament in Abilene. The Texans won the first two games but fell in the last game.

Starting the tournament, the Texans played the Cameron University Aggies.

The first few innings went scoreless for the two teams.

In the third Tarleton scored three runs. Ethan Stuckly hit an RBI single to right field to start the offense. A fielder’s choice helped Stuckly score. Ryan Small also scored by way of a throwing error.

In the fifth inning the score was 3-0 in Tarleton’s favor but that would quickly change. Stuckly came up to bat with a runner on and belted a two-run homerun making the score 5-0 Tarleton.

In the eight, Tarleton added to their score when Evan Robinson hit a single to score two runs to make the final score 7-0 Tarleton.

In day two of the tournament Tarleton faced Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds.

In the first inning the Greyhounds got to an early lead to make it 1-0 in their favor.

In the second inning Tarleton answered back with Jonathan Scmitz hitting an RBI groundout to score Blake Silguero.

In the third inning Tarleton gained the lead when Ryan Small hit a sacrifice bunt to make it a 2-1 Tarleton game.

In the bottom of the fourth Noah Ringenberger hit a fly ball to right field to score Ty Crump making it a 3-1 game in the Texans favor.

The Greyhounds responded to that inning by scoring a run in the fifth but that is all they could do.

Tarleton scored five runs in the sixth. Crump started the offensive power when he hit an RBI triple to right field. Ringenberger followed him and hit a two-run single. Robinson scored a run with help from a throwing error and Small hit an RBI single to make the score 8-2 Tarleton.

The Texans won the game 8-2.

In the final game of the tournament Tarleton faced the Abilene Christian University Wildcats.

The only run that Tarleton scored in this game was in the first when Silguero hit a double to right field and scored a runner.

Tarleton fell in that game to a final score of 7-1 making the Texans record 7-6 for the season.
