High hopes

I was recently promoted to my new position of Editor-in-Chief, and I am still not quite settled in, but it is a job that I’ve wanted for some time. I started at The J-TAC when we still had a weekly print edition as a meager comic strip artist, working on graphic designs to pick up extra hours. I began taking on writing and photography assignments, and moved my way into page design, doing a bit of copy editing when an extra set of eyes were needed. I continued producing comic strips, designs and political cartoons throughout my time at this fine institution. I am slightly saddened by the fact I will no longer have the time to create comics, but this is greatly softened by an opportunity to make the news organization I love an even better one.

Now I am sitting in the metaphorical big chair. And, I want to utilize my time here as best as I can. It is my mission to broaden our reader base, bring more of the news our readers want to our site and have that news be of the highest quality possible. But, not only that; I want to bring you that news in a place that is nice to look at, with an enjoyable look from our designers. I want to bring you new ways to experience The J-TAC with video footage, interactive polls and other features that could not be offered in traditional newsprint.

Last, but certainly not least, it is my personal belief that it was a mistake for The J-TAC to move to web only. I would love to see it back in print again. I will do what I can, and I hope that I can rely on the support of our readers in this endeavor to restore a Tarleton tradition that dates back to 1919, 20 years after the university’s founding, and only two years after it became a state school.

My ears are always open to ideas from students, faculty and staff. So feel free to send your comments, complaints and suggestions to: [email protected]
