On Feb. 4 Tarleton State University’s baseball team started their season coming off of an impressive 35-15 record in 2011.

In the opening game, Tarleton beat McMurry University 2-1. Tarleton’s pitching game was a key factor of Tarleton’s success. The pitchers were Matt Buckmaster, Kenneth Stockton and Britt Robertshaw.

The Texans got on the board in the fifth inning when Noah Ringenberger and Evan Robinson got back to back doubles.

The ninth inning is where things got interesting. Landon Thompson hit an infield single and was moved to second with a sacrifice bunt. Then, Andrew Wolfe walked, followed by Ringenberger getting hit by a pitch. Next Robinson came up working the 2-2 count, and he got a weak single to left field scoring Thompson and giving the Texans their first win of the season.

On Sunday, the Texans again hosted McMurry in their first doubleheader of the season. Despite the cold weather and heavy winds, the Texans won the first game 3-1 and the second 6-2.

In the first game, in the Texan’s half of the first inning, Ringenberger got on with a single, Robinson got on by way of an error and Ryan Small got on thanks to a walk. Senior Ethan Stuckly came on and hit a line drive to center to get a single. Ringerberger came in to score on that play.

In the fourth inning Thompson got on by way of a walk and two errors helped him score, followed by Jared Musgrove scoring when the ball passed a McMurry player giving the Texan’s a 3-0 lead.

In the seventh, McMurry scored their only run of the game, leading to a Tarleton win of 3-1.

In the second game of the day the Texans came out swinging and scored two runs in the first on a throwing error when Ryan Small stole second and the pickoff throw ended up going to centerfield.

McMurry also scored on an error in the second inning cutting Tarleton’s lead by one run.

In the bottom of the third Tarleton upped the score by three runs with help from a sacrifice bunt, a single and a throwing error.

In the fourth McMurry scored again with a sacrifice bunt. However, Tarleton was still in the lead at the end of that inning 5-2.

In the fifth inning, Tarleton scored on a sacrifice fly out that was hit by Robinson to score Andy Wolfe making the score 6-2.

At the end of the game, Tarleton was on top 6-2 making their young record a perfect 3-0.
