New TSU Welcome Center coming soon

Say goodbye to the old nursing building, and hello to the new Welcome Center. The building, which is located on the corner of Washington and McIlhaney, is undergoing a makeover to make room for the growing Tarleton State University family. Laurie Gaiser, director of the Welcome Center and School Relations says, “The Welcome Center is often the front door to Tarleton for our future students.”

The Welcome Center hosts campus tours Monday through Friday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.. As well as group tours and Texan Tour, Tarleton’s Preview Day. Overall tours have increased 92 percent in just the past year alone. During the last academic year, over 6,700 people visited the campus through the Welcome Center.

The new building will include a presentation room for an Information Session on admissions, academics and campus life including a recruitment video with seating for more than 60 people. There will also be a computer lab where students will be able to complete their online application for admissions, housing and scholarships.

Complete with all new offices for the staff and conference room to meet individually with prospective students and their families. The features of the new building are expected to help get more students into Tarleton. The goal is to give tour attendees the Tarleton family experience and a warm welcome. “They may not remember exactly what we say, but they will remember exactly how we make them feel and the new Welcome Center will help us provide an experience to remember,” said Gaiser.

The new Welcome Center, which has been a year in the works, is scheduled to be completed in the middle of May 2012.
