Texans and TexAnns win LSC title

On Saturday the Tarleton State University Texans and TexAnns basketball team took on Abilene Christian University in Stephenville for the Lone Star Conference title. At the end of the night, both teams were victorious.

The two teams remained tight for the first part of the game, but Peyton Adamson gave Tarleton the lead when she stepped up to the free throw line.

With Tarleton holding on to a two point lead Lisa Parker hit a 3-pointer leading Tarleton to an 8 unanswered points making the score 26-16 Tarleton.

With 1:17 left in the half ACU pulled closer to Tarleton, but Parker had a 4-point play giving the TexAnns a 13-point lead going into halftime.

Going into the second half, Tarleton went on an 11-4 point run against ACU giving the TexAnns a 20 point lead with 15:29 left in the game.

The Wildcats answered back cutting the lead to 14 but Parker went to the free throw line and hit both starting a 16 point run that would eventually result in a TexAnn lead by 30 with 5:15 left.

That was all that ACU had to offer resulting in a final score of 85-71 in Tarleton’s favor. With that win the TexAnns won the LSC title.

The Texans also played that night against ACU for the LSC title.

The Texans came out ready for battle when they jumped to a 9-0 lead by the 16:50 mark.

With 11:51 left in the first half the score was 19-5 Tarleton.

The Texans had a lead of 18 before ACU started a comeback. With less than four minutes to go ACU tied the game at 27, and by halftime, the game was tied at 34.

During halftime P.A.N.K.U.S. held the first annual Block T Guessing Game. Where contestants bought tickets to guess how many jellybeans were in a jar. Greg Haskins won the game with the closest guess by guessing that there were 2,732 beans in the jar. The correct number was 2,633.

In the second half Tarleton came out stronger than the first and bettered their score by 10 making the score 46-36 with 13:14 left.

Throughout the rest of the game Tarleton increased their lead.

With a little more than two minutes to play, the score was 64-53 in favor of the Texans.

The Texans went on to win the game with a score of 74-62 leading the Texans to a LSC title.
