Tarleton administrator to retire

Jerry Graham has announced his plan to retire at the end of the spring semester in May after a 42-year career at Tarleton.

In an interview, when asked “what prompted your retirement?” Graham replied “I think it’s time. I came here in May of 1970, and I plan to work through May 31, that will make 42 years at Tarleton. I think there comes a time where it is appropriate to move on and I think after 42 years, that might be the time.”

Graham started at Tarleton in 1970 where he was employed with the university’s division of finance and administration. His office watches over and maintains the budgets and payroll, physical facilities, human resources, risk management and safety, police,  security and purchasing of the university.

During his stay here, Graham has worked under William O. Trogdon, Barry B. Thompson, Dennis P. McCabe, and F. Dominic Dottavio in various positions.

In an email issued to Tarleton faculty and staff, Graham said “I have enjoyed the interactions through the years with so many people associated with Tarleton, the A&M System, the State of Texas, and various other organizations. More importantly, I am appreciative of the students who have entered Tarleton, who have met their goals of obtaining a quality, affordable education from Tarleton, and most, like me, have a great appreciation for and respect for Tarleton.”

Graham went on to say that it is wonderful to work for the school that he attended. He said “It is the school you have all the connections to, and then get to be a part of that university as it develops and continues to grow is in my view, I couldn’t ask for it to be better. Tarleton is a great place, and just to be a part of it for 42 years and to help wherever I could to make a difference has just been a great feeling.”

Graham said that his first plan when he is retired is “Rest, my time here is a pretty demanding job, it can be pretty stressful at times.” He also plans on traveling, having family time, fishing and hunting.
