Outdoor Pursuits to host couples kayak trip
September 13, 2016
On Thursday, Tarleton State University’s Outdoor Pursuits is hosting a Movie on the Lawn in the amphitheater to promote their upcoming trip.
Outdoor Pursuits offers ways for students to get outside and have fun with friends while exploring and doing new and exciting activities.
“We do about four clinics or socials a year, so basically what we’re trying to raise awareness for is our trips, because the more numbers we get out of our trips is where a lot of our publicity comes from,” Rachel McDonald, a rec sports employee, said.
On Saturday September 17, the club is hosting a couples kayaking trip in Glen Rose, which costs $15.
Outdoor Pursuits also has a challenge course, which is available to groups to reserve. The challenge course is made for building trust, team work and having fun.
Outdoor Pursuits host socials to not only raise awareness for their trips, but for the climbing wall. At the start of the semester, many students use the rock wall, sometimes up to 50 students a day.
“As the school year goes on, people don’t come in to the Rec as much; they don’t do the rock wall as much,” McDonald said. “They start coming less and less, so that’s why we try and push trips and clinics and socials so we can get our name out there and people still know who we are even if they’re not coming to the rock wall every day.”
The rock wall, located in the Rec Center, is 35 feet tall and has difficulty levels ranging from beginner to advanced. The rock wall is open Sunday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.
