Study Abroad hosting expo for prospective students
September 29, 2016
Today, the Study Abroad program will be hosting a Study Abroad Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students that are interested in Studying Abroad will have an opportunity to talk to the different faculty members that will have booths up in the ballrooms of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center.
At the expo, there will be giveaways as well prizes for students who submitted photos from previous study abroad trips.
“There is no specific amount of study abroad programs that we have,” Dr. Marilyn Robitaille, Director of International Programs, said.
Study abroads are done during spring break, May mini-mesters and during the summer. Students have the opportunity to study abroad out of the country, and in the United States.
New York City is offered only to graduate students while Atlanta and Washington D.C. study abroads are only for undergraduates.
Robitaille states that everyone’s situation is different.
“If a student doesn’t find the program that he/she wanted or wanted a longer program that wasn’t offered, students would be able to talk to Program Providers that offer different studies in different places all over the world at the fair.”
Studying abroad earn students an Applied Learning Experience credit, or ALE, as well as transfer credits and other credits that goes towards their degree.
“Studying abroad can count towards one of your ALE credits, but you can’t double dip,” Robataille said. “You can go on as many study abroad trips as much as you like, but you can only get one study abroad credit towards your 3 ALE credits.”
Students that are interested and want financial aid for their trips are encouraged to go the the Study Abroad Tarleton page to fill out the International Education Fee Scholarships and have their FASFA forms current and up to date. All forms are due on or before January 15, 2017.
