Texas A&M Systems approve tuition increase
December 5, 2016
Tarleton State University’s total cost of attendance for two regular semesters is about $18,000 according to the National Center of Education Statistics. This cost can change depending on the individual and other factors. However, this will most likely change as a 1.8 percent increase has been agreed upon, but will not be formally approved until March 2017.
This change will only affect new students and any current students who are on the variable rate plan.
“Those on the guaranteed tuition plan will not see an increase in their tuition,” Dr. Tye Minckler Vice President for Finance and Administration, said.
According to Minckler, the President’s Board didn’t just pick a number out of the blue, but chose the percentage based on Tarleton’s inflation rate.
“This rate was chosen based on the inflation rate as identified in the consumer price index,” Minckler said.
The increased in tuition does not only affect Tarleton, but all the schools in the Texas A&M System. Which means that the significance of the increase in tuition will vary on the “judgement made by individual students and depend partially on how many credits taken and in what colleges,” Minckler says.
Tarleton State University expects the class of 2021 to be about the same as the class of 2020, meaning they may receive more revenue from them. But that revenue is taken up by cost changes that will also go up.
The 1.8 percent increased in tuition is the only change for tuition.
Tarleton is charged more each year by their vendors and software providers. These services are also provided too students which means the cost for them will be increased for all students and not just new students.
Most current students at Tarleton will not be affected by the increased tuition, but as the cost of business goes up, so will everybody’s total tuition.
