Every year in December Tarleton State University takes part in an event called Angel Tree. Both Alpha Gamma Rho and Student Engagement take time to set up this event to help give presents to people who may not be able to receive any during the holiday season.

“Both organizations enjoy being able to give back to surrounding areas because Tarleton State has so many kids that come from those surrounding towns and give so much to the University,” Landry Underwood, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, said.

“My favorite part of Angel Tree is seeing students take a lot of pride in giving presents to people they might not even know, and getting to come in and tell why they picked the presents that they did and being able to see the smiles that they put on people’s faces and know that they’re getting to make a difference.”

This year there were 153 angels and 150 people were involved in picking out and adopting an Angel. Some people were able to adopt more than one Angel and all 153 angels were adopted. The presents go to the towns of Gorman, De Leon and Dublin.

“My favorite is delivering the presents and seeing the kids faces.” Junior Harlan Smith and Alpha Gamma Rho member, said. “To be involved with the community and to give back to those that have given so much to us.”
