Spelman Professor to speak on minority women in the sciences
February 14, 2017
The Provost Diversity Speaker for tonight will be talking about minority women in the sciences as apart of the Speaker Symposium Lecture Series.
The lecture series is a university-wide committee founded by former longtime history professor and Dean Emeritus of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, Dr. Don Zealman.
“This committee brings guest speakers to our campus on a variety of topics, of interest to the university community,” Dr. Leslie Spotz, Fine Arts Professor, said. “Especially for the students.”
Dr. Albert Thompson is the speaker for this week.
“[Dr. Albert N. Thompson, Jr.] is Chair of the Division of Science and Mathematics and Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Spelman College,” Spotz said.
“We find our speakers from a variety of sources, and that is one of the main functions of our committee.”
Thompson will be speaking tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Nursing Building, Room 107.
“Dr. Thompson is a longtime member of the Science Faculty at Spelman College, which is a Historically Black College, or HBCU, for women, and thus has spent his professional career supporting science,” Spotz said.
“Everyone is invited! That is why we have invited Dr. Thompson to come here and to educate us on this important topic!”
