Tarleton State University’s student chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT), invites runners of all ages and levels to learn more about agriculture while running through the university’s farm during the inaugural Farm to Fork run on March 4.

Co-Advisor for ACT Chandra Andrew and Assistant Professor for Agricultural and Consumer Sciences, said, “The race is the first of its kind for [the] community, however, I expect a great turnout.”

The registration fee is $30 for the trail run and $25 for the fun run. This will include a T-shirt, breakfast and tours of the farm facilities. Prizes will be awarded to division winners.

According to Andrew, this race is meant to educate participants on agriculture and the misconceptions about agricultural practices.

“The majority of our population is more than two generations removed from the farm and have never had the opportunity to see livestock or a working farm,” Andrew said. “Most [people] don’t know where their food and clothing comes from.”

Andrew says understanding agriculture is essential for everyone and believes not knowing creates a lot of misconceptions and can lead people to become prejudiced against something they don’t even know anything about.
