All activities to resume in Fine Arts Building tomorrow morning

After a flooding from yesterday’s rain that caused all classes and events in the Fine Arts Building to cancel for the day, the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Building will resume all activities tomorrow, April 19.

Heavy rains that began around 4 p.m. and lasted until about 7 p.m. is the cause of the flooding in the building.

“Water entered the building in several locations on the first floor, but the impact should be minimal because most of the water can be extracted without damage to building materials,” said Public Relations Manager for Marketing and Communications Cecilia Jacobs.

“The university will continue to collaborate with the appropriate contractors to ensure the electrical system is thoroughly evaluated prior to bringing the power back up.”

The extent to what all is damaged and the costs are still up in the air.

“Until this assessment is complete and power is re-established, it is difficult to provide an estimated cost of damages,” said Jacobs.

Tarleton officials and contractors will ensure the safety of the building before classes and activities resume tomorrow. “A final inspection will be performed to ensure the safety of everyone who uses the building on a day-to-day basis.”
