Suspect apprehended for allegedly aiming gun at woman in car

Last night, around 5:30 p.m., the Erath County Dispatch received a call about a man with a gun on County Road 454. According to the Erath County Sheriff’s Department, the subject was identified as Garrett Paul Frey.

“The caller stated that a male subject came out into the roadway in front of 2606 CR 454 and pointed a gun at her as she drove by,” a statement released by the Erath County Sheriff’s Department stated.

At 6:43 p.m. last night, Tarleton State University sent out a Code Purple stating there was no danger to anyone on campus and the situation was being handled.

A second Code Purple was sent out 15 minutes later repeating the information and that the Stephenville Police Department would update when necessary.

According to the Erath County Sheriff’s Department’s statement, the event was never an “active shooter” situation.

The Stephenville PD, Texas Department of Public Safety, regional SWAT, and Somervell County Deputies all helped search for Frey last night, according to the statement.

Frey had a warrant for his arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The Stephenville PD reported that at about 2:00 p.m. today, Frey had been arrested.
