The Tarleton State University women’s golf team traveled to Mansfield where the team won the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Super Region Four Championship. This is the seventh year for the team to earn the regional championship title.

The TexAnns carded an eight-over par (296) in Wednesday’s final round to finish 55-over (310-313-296=919) at the Walnut Creek Country Club according to tarletonsports.com.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea, a Tarleton sophomore, tied for first place in the tournament with Cal State-East Bay’s Linda Brown with a 54-hole score of +8 (224). Jimenez-Perea is the fourth TexAnn to earn medalist honors at the regional tournament.

Jimenez-Perea also made Tarleton history by recording the fourth lowest score at a regional tournament.  In addition, her medal marks the sixth individual championship overall for the TexAnn Golf program according to Tarleton Sports.

Beginning the tournament, the Texanns entered the final round trailing by six strokes to the No. 1 team St. Edwards University. However, the TexAnns managed to shave 17 strokes off Tuesday’s round of +25 (313) and climb to the top of the rankings. The team made their place in Tarleton history with the third lowest team total at a regional tournament of 919.

Maraea Durie played a par-5 eagle at hole No. 4 helping the TexAnns earn the third lowest 18-hole team total.

Another Tarleton team member Beatriz Prados finished in a tie for fourth place overall with a three-day score of +13, while both Sharon Lau and Jessica Pickwick finished in a tie for seventh place with a scored of +17. Durie finished in a tie for 38^th place with a score of +38.

Next stop for the TexAnns is the NCAA Division II Golf Championships on May 14 -17 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C. This is Tarleton’s eighth consecutive appearance at the tournament.
