TexAnn golf places sixth in the nation at NCAA Championship

 

The Tarleton TexAnn golf team shot a fourth-round 30-over 318 to finish in sixth place with a final score 90-over 1,242 at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

“I was pleased we got 6th place we were ranked 7th so we finished better than rankings I was pleased we played well,” Coach Jerry Doyle said. “I think some of them could have done better but Isabel is a freshman and she actually beat the girl that got freshman of year as well as player of year so she did make 1st team all American. She and Jessica played great where Sharon and Jackie were average.”

Freshman Isabell Jimenez-Perea carded a final-round score of five-over 77 on Saturday and finished in a tie for seventh place with a combined score of 11-over 299. She came just eight strokes behind Barry’s Nancy Vergara, who captured the individual title with a three-over 291.

Sophomore Jessica Pickwick tied for 14th in the championships with a total score of 16-over 304. She carded a seven-over 79 in Saturday’s final round.

Junior Sharon Lau shot nine-over 81 on Saturday and finished the championship with a total score of 32-over 320. She finished in 46th place, just ahead of senior Jacqueline Lau, who also shot a nine-over 81 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 49th place with a score of 34-over 322.

Junior Sarah Fulfer shot 15-over 87 on Saturday and finished the tournament in 69th place with a score of 71-over 359.

“We lose Jackie and Sarah but we have Isabel friend from Spain coming this fall and we should be national ranked next year,” Coach Doyle staid. “The season was good, we won conference for 5th straight year so I am really happy about that.”
