The Tarleton State University rodeo team travelled to Sul Ross, Texas on Nov. 2-4, and competed in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Members of Tarleton’s rodeo team came out placing 14 different times in various categories.

Head rodeo coach, Mark Eakin, said “That was the last rodeo of the season and they did really well. The men got first and the women got second only by 100 points or so.”

The team has to practice year-round for rodeos. They don’t practice for one in particular, but they are always working on their skills.

Eakin added, “There are five rodeos in the spring and five in the fall; they’re not tied to those five. We practice up to Thanksgiving in the fall and then start back up again in January for the spring. A lot [of the team members] will practice on their own at home but we try to keep the doors open as much as possible.”

Tarleton won the following awards: Tyler Berghuis third in bareback riding, Trinton Downing first in tie down roping, Cody Bye second and third in tie down roping, Jace Fry tenth in tie down roping, Rylee Dick first in breakaway roping, Allison Danley sixth in breakaway roping, Brody Cress first in saddle bronc riding, Baili Collins first in goat roping, Abby Medlin with Zack Kirkpatrick fifth in team roping, Ky Bray with Jace Davis ninth and tenth in team roping, Kyle Parrish with Garret Jacobs ninth and tenth in team roping, Timber Allenbrand sixth in barrel racing, Brody Yeary fourth and fifth in bull riding, and Tyler McVay fourth and fifth in bull riding.

“We had a really good fall. I’m looking forward to a good spring as well,” Larkin said.
