Celestial events that are out of this world

Outer space is a wide and vast array of planets and galaxies far beyond our understanding. Every year, there are a multitude of celestial events that can be seen from here, on Earth. Here is a list of those celestial events happening in 2023.

The next full moon will be on March 7. This particular full moon is also referred to as the Worm Moon, the Sap Moon, the Lenten Moon, and the Crust Moon. 

The April Full Moon will be on April 6. This full moon is also known as the Pink Moon, the Growing Moon, the Egg Moon, the Sprouting Grass Moon, and the Fish Moon.

Mercury will be the closest to Earth a few times, on April 11, May 29, Aug. 10, Sept. 22, and Dec. 4. 

2023s first solar eclipse on April 20. This specifically will be a Hybrid Solar Eclipse, where the Moon will almost completely block the Sun.

The Lyrids Meteor Shower can be seen April 22 and 24. This meteor shower is the result of dust particles from the Comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, and at its peak it will produce around 20 meteors per hour. 

The May Full Moon will be on May 5. This full moon is referred to as the Flower Moon, the Milk Moon, and the Corn Planting Moon. A Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be on the same day, where the Moon will only partially pass through the Earth’s shadow. 

The Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower can be seen on May 6 and 7. This meteor shower is the result of debris from Halley’s Comet, and at its peak will produce around 60 meteors per hour. 

The June Full Moon will be on June 4. This full moon is also called the Strawberry Moon, the Honey Moon, and the Rose Moon. Venus will also be the closest to Earth this day.

The July Full Moon will be July 3. This full moon is also called the Buck Moon, the Hay Moon, and the Thunder Moon. This moon will also be the first Supermoon of 2023.
