Texans snap two-game losing streak with win over A&M-Kingsville

On Saturday February 13, the Tarleton State University Texan basketball team took on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas in a Lone Star Conference matchup. The Texans snapped their two-game losing streak and defeated the Javelinas, 76-63.

Prior to Saturday’s game, the Texans were reeling off of their first two-game losing streak in over two years, with losses coming from Cameron University and an upsetting double-overtime loss to Angelo State University, respectively.

The Texans took an early 17-7 lead on the Javelinas midway through the first half, with a huge dunk from senior Charles Hill off a fastbreak. The Texans continued to dominate throughout the half offensively, taking a commanding 20 point lead with 3:53 left in the first half. The Texans went into halftime leading the Javelinas 41-26.

The Texans returned for the second half and continued their offensive and defensive attacks. The Javelinas began to gain momentum toward the end of the second half, coming within nine with 1:43 left in the game. However, two fouls committed by the Javelinas, followed by Michael Hardge and EJ Reed secured the win for the Texans, 76-63.

In the Texan win, three players scored in double figures: EJ Reed leading with 19 points, Michael Hardge with 12 points and Malcolm Hamilton with 11 points.

Next up, on Wednesday February 17, the Texans (6-5, 17-7), will travel to Porales, New Mexico to take on Eastern New Mexico University at 8:30 p.m. And the Texans return to Wisdom

Gym for Senior night, where they will face West Texas A&M University at 7 p.m.
