The Grassburr has been a tradition at Tarleton since 1916.

The next Grassburr yearbook to be released will be the 100th. Those working hard to complete this centennial edition have big plans in mind to make it the best one yet.

“This edition will have all of the key components that the previous Grassburrs have had, but one major change is that this edition will have a whole section highlighting the past 100 years of the Grassburr,” said Grassburr Co Editor-in-Chief Savannah Baxter. “Each decade will have a two page spread that highlights a decade of time by using excerpts from the books during that decade.”

Last year, the Grassburr worked to come together with a varied group of involved Tarleton State University students to have a Grassburr Centennial “think tank.”

“We met a few different times with this group to get their input on what events we should host celebrating the 100th book and what should be included in the book,” commented Baxter.

The staff is planning several events for the spring 2016 semester. There are plans for a Grassburr Bash with live music, food trucks, bounce houses and more.

The Grassburr staff is attempting to capture history and the present by creating a modern yearbook with a classic touch.

“Every yearbook has its stresses to make it the best it can, but there is a pretty significant amount of stress to make sure this book is the best one yet, since it is the 100th edition,” said Baxter. “We want to have touches of the first book in this edition, but not make it boring.”

On Nov. 19th, the Grassburr staff is planning to host their Centennial Kick-Off Event showcasing the entries from their photo recreation contest. Students will be able to enjoy free hot chocolate in complimentary centennial coffee mugs, make their own ornaments, and view contest entries. The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m.
