Tarleton State University will premiere a 10-foot tall bronze sculpture of late founder John Tarleton in a ceremony on Monday, July 27. The events will take place at the Alumni Island on Military Drive.

“Sculptor and artist Kenneth Wyatt, a 1946 Tarleton graduate who also received an Honorary Doctorate from Tarleton, created the art,” said Harry Battson, Assistant Vice President for Marketing & Communications. “He donated his work and talent.”

Wyatt is a renowned artist who has created more than 9,000 pieces of art, which are displayed all over the nation. Wyatt describes his talent as “strictly a gift from God”, according to his gallery biography, and his religious works are on display in churches in over 90 countries around the world.

“Wyatt is a man dedicated to his calling, evidenced by the tremendous number of hours he spends at the easel,” according to his biography. “With renewed inspiration from God, family, friends, owners and the awesome examples of great artists in years past, as well as some really fantastic artists of today, he intends to continue ‘twisting the tubes’ and ‘pushing the paint around’ as long as he feels his Heavenly Father has need of his work.”

The statue was funded by The Alpha Building Corporation, which was also responsible for the Alumni Island project, according to Battson. For more information, visit Tarleton.edu.
