TexAnns defeated by MSU

The Tarleton State University TexAnn basketball team faced Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State University on MSU’s home court on Feb. 4. The ladies fell to the Mustangs with a final score of 72-57.

Raven McGrath starting out the scoring by making a 3-pointer early in the game. Bailey Wipff was the next TexAnn to put points on the board for the team to make the score 6-2, TexAnns.

MSU then went on a 9-0 run to take a five-point lead over the TexAnns. Ikpeaku Iwobi was able to make a layup to bring the deficit to three before a 3-pointer from the Mustangs took it back to six.

Tarleton was able to get within one point of MSU with a free throw from Morgan Ashmore with just under 14 minutes left in the first half.

MSU was able to get as big as an 11-point lead over the TexAnns with nine and a half minutes until the break. A pair of free throws from Thomas made the score 29-20. A Mustang layup followed, but was answered by a 3-pointer from TexAnn Averie Mack. Tarleton was able to get within five points of the Mustangs before a 7-0 run by them was ended with a jump shot from Travati Downes with less than a minute to end the scoring in the first half.

The second half started out with points going up from each team. Tarleton managed to keep the deficit to less than ten points until a Mustang jump shot brought the score to 55-44, MSU.

Despite their best efforts, the TexAnns fell with a final score of 72-57.

The TexAnns are now 12-7 overall and 5-5 for conference games.

The team will be back in action on Feb. 7 against Cameron University at 5 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
