In 2013, Tarleton State University’s number of residential liquor law violation arrests significantly decreased from 65 to 16 between 2012 and 2013, but saw an increase in liquor law violations that resulted in disciplinary action (27 in 2012 and 61 in 2013).

Three aggravated assaults and nine forcible sexual offenses were reported. Of those reports, one aggravated assault and eight sexual offenses allegedly took place in residential facilities; an increase from one reported forcible sexual offense in 2012 and zero reported aggravated assaults.

Drug abuse violations increased from 12 total reported cases to 16, with 12 of those reportedly occurring on-campus. Burglary reports totaled at 17, a decrease from 2012’s 19 cases, with 14 occurring in residential facilities.

There were no reports of robbery, motor vehicle theft or arson, nor were there any arrests or disciplinary actions associated with weapons charges (last year there was one weapons-related arrest reported).

Tarleton, along with all academic institutions that receive financial aid from the state, have an obligation of compliance with federal statute 20 U.S.C. § 1092, which requires the disclosure of crime statistics on and around campus. Demand for this policy came in light of the tragic occurrence in 1986 at Lehigh University after 19-year-old Jeanne Clery was raped and murdered in her campus residence hall.
