Along with the many improvements to be added in 2020, Tarleton State University students can expect parking to improve as well with the addition of two parking garages centrally located on campus.

“With Tarleton’s ever growing population, we expect amenities to improve as new buildings and lots are added for student and faculty parking,” Lieutenant campus officer Alvin Allcon said. “This semester’s introduction of the shuttle service to and from campus has already lessened some of the congestion in lots and on the streets surrounding Tarleton.”

In the first week of school, the shuttle serviced 3,788 students from off campus housing and 5,980 on the inner campus system of golf carts.

“We have added an additional 660 spaces near the baseball field for commuter parking and offer a shuttle to bring students across Washington Street during peak class hours,” Allcon said. “According to the registrar’s office, the majority of our students attend class between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, but we have received suggestions to extend the shuttle hours to allow for night class transportation.”

Campus police have paired with Student Government Association Senate and House of Representatives to gain student opinion on how to improve campus parking and safety.

“It is important that we get the opinion of the students on this matter so we can better serve and protect not only our residents on-campus but the ones off-campus as well,” Allcon said.

To make a suggestion on parking or other campus safety issues, students are encouraged to contact SGA or the on-campus police department.
