The water aerobics class will take place at the Tarleton indoor swimming pool located in Wisdom Gym.

For the first time during a summer semester, a water aerobics class will be provided to students, faculty, staff and the public. Tarleton State University senior Ashley Dehm will teach the class.

“If your looking for a workout that is easy on the joints, or add in an extra workout to change things up a bit, this class is the way to go,” Dehm said. “You will easily make friends in this class and just have fun with the workout. “

Dehm, a public relations and event management major, began teaching water aerobics in the Fall of 2013.

“I started teaching water aerobics, because I heard they needed someone and I thought it would be a great way to have fun and get an extra workout in,” Dehm said.

“I’m not exactly sure why this is the first summer session but my water aerobics ladies asked me if I would teach a class over the summer so I made it my mission to make it happen.”

The class will take place at the Tarleton indoor swimming pool located in Wisdom Gym. The course runs June 16 through Aug. 8, and will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A $65 fee is required and all equipment will be provided to participants.

“We will do all kinds of water aerobics.” Dehm said. “Some days are more challenging than others, but the atmosphere is geared more towards having fun and relieving stress rather than an intense workout.”

To register for the water aerobics class, visit the Kinesiology Department office located in Room 132 of Wisdom Gym weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or sign up on the first day of class.

“This may sound cliché but it’s the truth, my favorite thing about the class is, hands down, the women,” Dehm said. “They are there to have fun and they know how to workout and laugh at the same time. “

Dehm will be graduating this August, so this will be her last time to teach a water aerobics class.

“I will miss the ladies in my class the most,” Dehm said. “They are more than my students, they have become my friends and they are just wonderful.”
