Tarleton State University Social Science Professor Dean Minix is known for his dedication to students, passion for teaching and kindness to others. With recent health concerns, those who Minix has helped are returning the favor.

Minix, a resident of Morgan Mill, has been hospitalized since April due to a fall. According to the Stephenville Empire-Tribune, he suffered a skull fracture. He is currently at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital.

Dean for the College of Liberal and Fine Arts Kelli Styron, is asking the Tarleton community who attend the fundraiser to wear their Tarleton gear to show support.

“The community of Morgan Mill has a long tradition of supporting various causes,” Styron said. “It is my hope that Dr. Minix’s Tarleton family will show our support by joining efforts with the generous people of the community of Morgan Mill, and I thought wearing TSU gear would illustrate that support not only in our numbers by showing up and donating, but in the statement that Tarleton backs Dr. Minix. We are all very hopeful that he will continue to recover and be back on campus as soon as possible.”

Styron, who is a close friend of Minix, said one word that best describes him is “dedicated.”

“He is dedicated to his family, to Tarleton, to his students, and to his community of Morgan Mill,” she said. “He works hard to bring the best he has to offer to whatever the task, whether that is the classroom, his internship interviews and placement, his many service obligations within the community of Morgan Mill, and his daily life with his wife and children.”

In addition to teaching, Minix serves as faculty for the study abroad program and a volunteer fireman for Morgan Mill. Minix previously held the dean position for the college.

“Dr. Minix is a kind, generous person,” Styron said. “He has done so many good things for so many people throughout his life. I hope we can do something that symbolizes that we support him and his loving family during this time of illness and recuperation. I am privileged to call him a friend and colleague. Tarleton State University is a better place because of what he has done for students.”
