Wisdom Gym will house the first ever Texans on TV televised basketball event Feb. 15 beginning at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Athletics Outreach Committee in co-ordinance with Tarleton Athletics.

The game will be aired on CSN Houston and CSNHouston.com. To watch the live stream visit: http://www.csnhouston.com/page/live

“The idea behind, Texans on TV is to not just fill Wisdom Gym but also for students to be as spirited as possible.  We want students to line the baselines and be as loud as possible; the student section says ‘Stand Up’ for a reason,” Charlie Keenan, Athletics Outreach Committee chairman and PANKUS President said.

Texans on TV starts with the opportunity for students to create their own Rally Towel Feb. 11 though 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the student center lobby. Along with making personalized towels, students may submit their design to SGA via Twitter for a chance to win a prize.

“We have 300 Rally Towels available for students to customize,” Keenan said. “With sponsorship from the Rec Center, 600 rally towels were donated to the Student Government Association to customize and imprint. SGA will provide the supplies to customize the Rally Towels; students will also have the option to take a plain towel home to customize on their own time if they choose to do so.”

In addition to the Rally towel event, a station will be set up a few hours prior to the game for students to make their own signs. Greek Life will also be holding a contest to see who can be the most spirited.

“The main goal of Texans on TV is to fill the gym and make the first live televised Texan Basketball as spirited as possible,” Keenan said. “We also want as many students as possible to attend the TexAnns Basketball game at 5:00pm on the 15th because they need just as much support as the Texans.”

Keenan, as well as other members of the Athletic committee and SGA hope to raise attendance and much needed spirit at games, and for these organizations to gain experience from this event and utilize that knowledge for future events.

“We plan on having tailgates setup for Baseball and Softball to increase attendance as well as spirit at those games, with experience from the Texans on TV event, it will make those events that much easier to plan and execute,” Keenan said.

“The Athletic Outreach Committee was formed in Student Senate on the premise of increasing attendance at athletic events and for students attending those games to be as spirited as possible,” Keenan said. “On behalf of the Athletics Outreach Committee, our athletes need your support. We want you; to not only fill the stands at athletic events, but also to be as spirited and loud as possible at games.”
