STEPHENVILLE, Texas-Christmas will be a little brighter for more than 120 children of low-income families this year thanks to the Tarleton Angel Tree program sponsored by Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and the Office of Student Engagement. This was the first year that a student organization was asked to lead the program.

“We decided to get involved with the Angel Tree program because it is a great way to help people in need and give kids a good Christmas,” said Dylan Fisher, scholarship officer for Alpha Gamma Rho.

As in previous years, it didn’t take long for Tarleton State University students, faculty and staff to snag all the “angels” off the tree. “We put 125 angels on our tree and in two days they were all gone,” Fisher said.

Members of Alpha Gamma Rho will deliver the gifts on Dec. 18.

“The Office of Student Engagement is about student success and one of our university goals is distinctive engagement,” said Darrell Brown, executive director of Student Engagement. “Students should have the opportunity to take the leadership of events such as these.”

The donated gifts will go to children from 2 months to 17 years old whose families live in Dublin, DeLeon and Gorman.

“Tarleton showed that there are a bunch of great Texans out there that are willing to help people in need,” Fisher said.
