Tarleton Alumni Association to dedicate membership dues to scholarships

The Tarleton Alumni Association voted on Nov. 16 to put 100 percent of all future membership dues toward the funding of scholarships. In addition, operational duties of the association will be transferred to Tarleton State University.

“In the past, the alumni association operated as separate from the university,” said Mike Kornegay, President of the Alumni Association. “We are still separate organizations, but now we are combining our resources. Combining these resources will streamline processes to better meet alumni needs and ease of interaction with Tarleton State University.”

Kornegay expects that students will begin seeing the effects of the move as soon as it is put into place.

“The change will have an immediate effect on our alumni, students, faculty and friends. This change will provide a more united effort to meet our common goals.” Kornegay said.

Jessica Evans, Director of Development and Alumni Engagement at Tarleton, will assume responsibility over the daily operations of the association, and will have an office in the alumni house on McIlhaney Street, which will make her more accessible to students and members alike.

“There are many alums, faculty and friends who had input in this transformation,” Kornegay added. “By working together, rather than separate, we will strengthen both the alumni association and the university.”
