Realities and Myths of Courtroom Procedures summer course

The Criminal Justice Department is offering a unique opportunity for students this summer.  CJ 486 “Realities & Myths of Courtroom Procedures” will be taught at the Earth County Courthouse by the Honorable District Court Judge Jason Cashon on Monday nights 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the 8 week session.

“It’s an opportunity that will be held in a court room, which will give the students the opportunity to visit with the court system staff, the grand jury room, and to visit with the district attorney,” department head and associate professor Dr. Vardalis said.

The course will provide insight and understanding of areas of the grand jury, exclusion of evidence, search and seizure, search warrant requirements, the trial of a felony, the role of an expert witness and the roles of the prosecutor and defense attorneys.

Dr. Vardalis stated, “my goal is to make this a different type of learning environment that will include people that would have to testify in court. It’s a unique learning experience for the students.”

A textbook is not required and parking is free. The class is open to the first 30 students. For additional information call the Department of Criminal Justice at 254-968-9024
