Dr. Anthony Pursell, Tarleton’s director of bands, was recently named contributing editor for The Instrumentalist Magazine. The Northfield, Ill.-based national publication has been in circulation since 1946 and has approximately 12,000 readers worldwide.

The magazine is one of the primary resources for band and orchestra directors, performers and music education specialists. Readers range from K-12 teachers to college-level professors and professional musicians. Article topics appearing in the magazine include instrumental pedagogy, conducting tips, programming ideas, repertoire analyses, and interviews with composers, performers, conductors and prominent teachers.

“I am excited for the opportunity to write on a variety of topics that are important in music education, especially geared towards younger teachers,” Pursell said. “The opportunity to have a voice on the national level is an honor and a great opportunity to highlight the university in a very positive and professional way.”

Pursell has published several articles in The Instrumentalist Magazine since 2006 on a wide variety of topics in music education.
