Dr. Sudarshan Kurwadkar, assistant professor of environmental engineering, has been selected as a 2012 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) ExCEEd fellow by the society’s Committee on Faculty Development.

Kurwadkar’s selection as an ExCEEd (Excellence in Civil Engineering Education) fellow will allow him to participate in this year’s ASCE-ExCEEd teaching workshop at Florida Gulf Coast University, June 24-29. ExCEEd teaching fellowships are open to any civil engineering faculty member who wants to become a better teacher and who is willing to promote the cause of improved teaching at their own institution.

The course strives to address the needs of faculty from two-year and four-year institutions, both teaching and research, and to achieve appropriate representation from groups that are typically underrepresented on engineering faculties.

As part of ASCE’s commitment to faculty development, ASCE will cover expenses of Kurwadkar’s fellowship to attend the six-day practicum that provides engineering educators with an opportunity to improve their teaching abilities. ASCE has successfully presented the workshop each summer for the past 13 years and attracts faculty members from across the U.S. and world.
