Dr. Ashley Tull has been named assistant vice president for student life studies, effective June 1. He brings 18 years of experience in higher education to the university’s staff, most recently serving as a visiting assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Texas at Arlington.

“I am excited to join the leadership team in the Division of Student Life at Tarleton State,” Tull said. “I am looking forward to being a part of a dynamic division and university, both personally and professionally.”

Tull previously held administrative and teaching positions at the University of Arkansas, Florida State University, Georgia Highlands College and Middle Georgia College. At Tarleton, he will lead assessment and planning efforts for the Division of Student Life, provide leadership on division research, and serve as a member of the vice president of student life’s senior management team.

Tull earned a bachelor of science degree with honors in social and rehabilitation services and a master’s of education in college student personnel services from the University of Southern Mississippi. He received a graduate certificate in human resource development and a doctorate of education in higher education administration from Florida State University, where he was a Hardee Scholar.

Tull is currently editing a book titled The Handbook for Student Affairs in the Community College, and has edited two previous books, Becoming Socialized in Student Affairs: A Guide for New Professionals and Their Supervisors, and New Realities in the Management of  Student Affairs: Emerging Specialist Roles and Structures for Changing Times.

In addition, Tull serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of College Student Development, Community College Review, Journal of Community College Research and Practice, College Student Affairs Journal, and the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice. His research has been published in the College Student Affairs Journal, NASPA Journal, the Journal of College and Character, Research in the Schools and the Journal of College Student Development. His research interests center on management concepts and supervision in student affairs and higher education.

Tull lives in Fort Worth with his wife Dr. Kathy Cavins-Tull, who serves as vice chancellor for student affairs at Texas Christian University.
