Tarleton State University’s flute choir has been selected to perform at the 35th annual Texas Flute Festival at the University of North Texas in Denton.

Under the direction of adjunct professor Ronda Winter-Eldridge, the Tarleton flute choir and chamber flutes will perform a cameo concert at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at UNT’s Voertman Hall. The musicians will debut Winter-Eldridge’s newest piece for flute choir, “Mosquito,” which was written to introduce extended techniques to young flutists.

The three-day festival, scheduled May 17-19 includes recitals, seminars, master classes and special performances. Tarleton’s flute choir was just one of three in the state of Texas receiving a special invitation to perform at this year’s festival, sponsored by the Texas Flute Society.

Members of Tarleton’s flute choir include music majors, music minors and non-major flutists, said Winter-Eldridge.

Winter-Eldridge, who oversees the Tarleton Flute Studio, has also been selected to serve as a guest conductor for the Texas State Advanced Flute Choir, which consists of approximately 60 flutists from across Texas who will perform on flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute at the upcoming festival.

Winter-Eldridge has been conducting award-winning flute choirs for more than 20 years. She has performed and recorded as a guest artist with the Silver Sounds Flute Ensemble in Los Angeles, and her flute duo MUSe was invited to perform at the 2006 National Flute Convention in Pittsburgh.

Winter-Eldridge has collaborated with several award-winning musicians, including internationally acclaimed songwriter Roger Scott Craig and Grammy-nominated folksinger Grace Griffith. She has recorded for Blix Street Records and Tule River Records. Her music is available internationally through more than 60 digital music companies including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
