Dr. Charles Rives will take the podium one last time before retiring as director of choirs at Tarleton State University.

In honor of Rives’ nearly three-decades long career and his dedication to students within the university’s Department of Fine Arts, the Tarleton Choirs and members of the Cross Timbers Civic Chorale will host a farewell concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center auditorium.

Saturday’s concert will be under the direction of Rives-his final concert after 29 years as director of choirs at Tarleton. His last duty will be to chaperone Tarleton’s choir students and members of the Cross Timbers Civic Chorale when they travel to Ireland later this month.

Rives joined the Tarleton faculty in 1983, succeeding Herbert Teat as choral director. He came to Stephenville from Arizona State University where he was a faculty member and assistant conductor of the ASU Choral Union. Prior to that, Rives was a highly successful high school choir director at Deming and Roswell, N.M, and had directed the New Mexico Honor Choir. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s in music education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a doctoral degree in musical arts from Arizona State.

General admission tickets are $5 for adults and admission is free with a valid Tarleton ID. The box office opens one hour prior to the performance.
