The 12th annual Texan Performance Horse Sale will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Tarleton State University Equine Center Arena. This year’s sale will offer 11 two-year-olds along with 11 outside consignment horses that vary in age, gender and experience.

For the past 11 years, Tarleton’s equine science program has been selling horses from the training classes. These geldings and fillies either have been raised at the Equine Center by students at the university or donated to the program, and are sound of mind and body and looking for a job.

“After going through extensive groundwork training during the fall semester, these colts were started under saddle by the Tarleton students in early February. By the sale date they will have about 60 rides on them,” said Dr. Don Henneke, director of equine science at Tarleton. “Across the board this is the best set of two-year-olds we have ever had.”

Proceeds from the performance horse sale support the costs associated with the equine program at Tarleton. Horse demonstrations begin at noon with the sale following at 2 p.m.
