Tarleton State University’s Department of Fine Arts presented three scholarships at the conclusion of its annual Honors Recital on April 2. The recital featured 11 outstanding music students selected through auditions by a panel of judges from outside the university.

Among those chosen to participate in the 2012 recital were: instrumental-Destin Chapman, trombone; Jenny Cooper, clarinet; Fredy Gonzalez, saxophone; and Caitlin Rose, flute; piano-Jeremy Bowen, Lanae Ford and Sophia Sands; and vocal-Mary Banks, Jenny Dryer, Macie Unzicker and Whitney Warren.

Three participants received the Center Stage Scholarship, the department’s most prestigious scholarship. Music faculty selected winners from each of the three performance areas represented on the program.

This year’s recipients of the Center Stage Performance Scholarship are Whitney Warren, who studies vocal performance with Dr. Iwao Asakura; Jeremy Bowen, a piano student who studies with Dr. Leslie Spotz; and Fredy Gonzalez, who studies saxophone with Greg Ball.

“All of the students who performed on the recital are dedicated, hard-working students who have progressed well in their musical studies,” said instructor and accompanist Steve Chambers.
