Dr. Jeff Justice, assistant professor of political science at Tarleton State University, was recently elected president of the Southwestern International Studies Association (SISA), a regional affiliate of the Southwestern Social Science Association (SSSA).

Justice, who previously served as vice president of SISA as well as conference program chair, assumed the role of president on April 6 during the 92nd SSSA annual meeting in San Diego, Calif. He will serve a one-year term on the association’s executive council, which represents various academic disciplines and serves as the governing council for the organization.

Along with his new role of president of SISA, Justice also was elected vice president and program chair for the Southwestern Political Science Association.

Founded in 1919, SSSA is the oldest interdisciplinary social science association in the United States. It is the umbrella organization for seven academic and professional affiliate associations, including the areas of economics, history, international studies, political science, social work, sociology, and women’s and gender studies. The purpose of SSSA is to promote, cultivate and correlate the various areas of the social sciences and their applications through publication of the Social Science Quarterly and annual meetings that draw social scientists from across the world.

Justice joined the faculty of Tarleton’s Department of Social Sciences in 2009. He also serves as adviser to pre-law students and director of the Scottish Studies Program.
