Head coach Misty Wilson’s 8-3(2-1 LSC) Tarleton State University TexAnns faced the red-hot 13-1(4-0 LSC) Midwestern State University Mustangs who were fresh off 10 straight victories.

The opening half began smooth offensively for Tarleton, as Kathy Thomas posted five consecutive opening points. Indecisive ball-rotation by Midwestern appeared as opportunity for an early steal, of which Thomas concluded by taking it full-court for the layup on a fast break.

As the Mustangs sought to gain the winning advantage, Karli Moore knocked down her career’s first three-point basket. Despite a three-basket advantage with a quarter of play having expired, Midwestern fought to a six point lead of their own with 02:19 remaining in the half.

Kathy Thomas’s relentless efforts shortened Midwestern’s lead to a bucket (30-28); but, an additional three points tallied by the Mustangs rendered Tarleton trailing as the buzzer signaled the end of the opening period.

Midwestern’s opening basket extended Tarleton’s deficit to seven points (35-28). Moments after tying the game at 40 all, Kathy Thomas added another three point bucket to her career total, regaining the TexAnn lead with 09:00 remaining.

Thomas’s aggressive maneuver in the paint with 01:53 remaining set the tone, as the TexAnn captain performed a replay of the previous scenario with consecutive drive through the lane for two points, and one at the free-throw line. The TexAnns beat the Mustangs, 61-56 The TexAnns will host the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M Wednesday at 5:30 in the Wisdom Gym.
