Texan cross-country dominates ASU meet

The Tarleton State University men’s cross country team has set a school record by winning three consecutive meets. The men and women’s team traveled to San Angelo on Oct. 28 to compete in the Angelo State University Cross Country meet. The men took it all, and the women took silver behind the home team.

The men’s team scored 20 points, five points over the perfect score of 15, which was once achieved under head Coach Pat Ponder.

Four Texan runners finished in the top-10. Dylan Willet won first in the men’s run with a time of 26:17.37. Dallas Rushing placed second, Thorne Pettigrew finished third, and Peyton Heinig was fourth. Their times were 26:32.86, 24:41.14, and 26:47.81, respectively.

Also running for the Texans were Andrew Clark with 11th place (27:39.24), Kade Cowan in 16th (28:23.74), and Stefan Campos with 22nd (30:16.97).

Tylo Farrar won the individual gold on the women’s side with her 23:01.53 finish. Pamela Marquez was next with fourth place in 23:59.40, while Lauren Finley finished fifth in 24:15.48.

Haley Dennard (25:03.69), Makinsey Beesley (25:59.23), and Ashley Dush (27:54.85) placed 9th, 13th, and 16th places, respectively.

The men and women teams next meet will be the Lone Star Conference championship in Wichita Falls on Nov. 8.
