This morning, Tarleton State University announced that Texan football defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Henry Cofer has resigned. Cofer had served nine seasons with Tarleton.

“Henry has been here for a long time and has done an incredible job. He has been a true professional during his time at Tarleton State University,” said head coach Cary Fowler in a statement released via the Tarleton Athletic Communications Department. “He has been with me every step of the way since I came to Tarleton and I consider him a great friend. He has an incredible work ethic and I wish him nothing but the best in whatever he chooses to pursue.”

According to the release, Cofer stepped down to “pursue other career goals.”

Cofer joined the Texan football program in 2006 as a graduate assistant. In 2008 he became a full-time linebackers coach, and two years later was promoted to defensive coordinator, a position he served in for five seasons.

During his time at Tarleton, Cofer helped lead the Texan football team to a 2009 LSC Championship as linebackers coach, 27 winning games and an additional LSC Championship as defensive coordinator, and multiple NCAA playoff appearances.

Fowler reportedly told The Flash Today that Mason Miller, assistant head coach of the Texans, will resume the role of offensive coordinator, and receivers coach Jonathan Beasely “has assumed the title of recruiting coordinator” while Fowler himself will take over the role of defensive coordinator for the 2015 season.

“I’ve always had a passion for coaching defense and I continued to coach the defensive backs after being named the head coach, so this isn’t too big of adjustment for anyone,” said Fowler. “I’m looking forward to challenge and being able to coach a group of young men that I believe have the potential to be one of the greatest defenses I’ve ever seen.”
