Last night, The Tarleton State University TexAnns took on the Pioneers of Texas Women’s University. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday Feb. 2 in Denton, Texas, but due to inclement weather, the game was rescheduled for Monday Feb. 3. This offered the TexAnns a day of rest after just coming off a win against Texas A&M Commerce on Saturday, Feb. 1. The TexAnns were looking to extend their two game winning streak and make their place in The Lone Star Conference.

The opening minutes of the first half set the stage for the game to be a fight to the finish; however, as the time progressed the TexAnns’ shots continuously came up cold and combined eight turnovers. This, combined with the relentless attack that the Pioneers were putting up meant the TexAnns could not keep up. The Pioneers went up by as much as 16 during the first half and the TexAnns were down 37-24 at the half.

The second half gave the TexAnns a clean slate to make a second half comeback, however, it proved to be a reflection of the first. The TexAnns attempted to make a late comeback, coming within two points but the Pioneers prevailed and defeated the TexAnns, 64-59.

Senior Guard Kiara Wright contributed 17 points, three assists, and three steals in the TexAnns’ losing effort. Senior Guard Brianna Bledsoe also contributed 12 points for the TexAnns. Both Wright and Bledsoe led the TexAnns in minutes played, playing 37 minutes each.

The TexAnns take on their rival Midwestern State University on Wednesday at home in the Wisdom Gym at 5 p.m.
